Janke's lab research:

We investigate the role of the tubulin code in microtubule functions. My team has discovered most of the enzymes involved in posttranslational modifications of microtubules (Janke et al, 2005; Rogowski et al, 2009; Rogowski et al, 2010; Tort et al, 2014; van Dijk et al, 2007; Wloga et al, 2009), and we have performed functional studies to show their importance in the cell cycle, cilia and flagella, and neurons (Bosch Grau et al, 2013; Rocha et al, 2014; Rogowski et al, 2010). In the past seven years, my team has focused on the development of appropriate model systems (mouse models) and biochemical approaches (Barisic et al, 2015; Lacroix et al, 2010; Nirschl et al, 2016) to decipher the tubulin code in vitro. To promote the novel subject and form new interactions between different subject areas, I have organized a number of international EMBO meetings, an EMBL/EMBO symposium, as well as a French-Indian workshop on the cytoskeleton. I have further organized and coordinated collaborative grants to exploit the tubulin code in other areas, e.g. in cancer research (Rocha et al, 2014).
